On Friday, September 14th, we woke very early and took a day trip out to Wyoming to see Devil's Tower. Devil's Tower is the very first National Monument in the US. We were pretty excited to see it for the very first time!
Just over a hill within the park's enterance; I liked how the rock and soil contrasted nicely with the sky in this shot.
An opportunity to take a shot of us in front of the tower.
Panoramic view of the Tower and its surroundings.
A 1.5 mile trail is paved around the entire base of Devil's tower. Matt standing in front of a huge boulder along the trail.
Legend has it, according to Native Americans, that the "lines" in the tower were formed from a large bear. The bear was trying to climb up after five young Native American girls who were standing on the top of the tower, trying to escape the bear. His claws dug into the mountain while climbing up it, thus leaving the large columns that are seen on it.
Some shots of Devil's Tower along the trail in color....
....And black and white as well.
Taking turns standing in front of the tower. It's amazing to see in person!
The tower through some trees on another part of the trail.
Climbing Devil's Tower is allowed; the day we visited there were people climbing to the top. Too crazy for my liking!
Another set of climbers.
On our way out of the park, we drove by an area of the park filled with prairie dogs. The minute we got out of our car to look at them, several started charging towards us! These guys were pretty tame and obviously used to people. They were anxious and hopeful that we would give them some food to munch on. :)
It's amusing the way they stand!
My granola! He really enjoyed our granola bar that we shared with them.
A prairie dog's claws are very long!
After returning from Devil's Tower, we thought it would be fun to cruise into Custer and have an Old Time Photo taken! We couldn't decide on just one, so we bought two of our favorites!
Rope 'em in! Ha ha ha
