Last weekend Matt and I headed up North to do some camping along the North Shore. We avoided the Memorial Day weekend rush of campers, and had the campground to ourselves for the first night!
Site #40 at Temperance State Park. Our first night.
View from across our site. Quite the shoreline view!

Friday morning, 5/18/12. Matthew's 28th birthday is today!
How do you feel about getting older Matthew? Ha ha ha
On Friday we took a hike to Carlton Peak, one of the higher points in Minnesota. Matthew getting ready to go... what, tired already? Ha ha ha just kidding!
The Temperance River, along the Carlton Peak hiking trail.

There are many small waterfalls along the river that are always nice to view.

Matthew enjoying the view along the hike.
Halfway to Carlton Peak!
Our friends Terri and Doug were also camping at Temperance last weekend. They joined in on the fun and hiked up to Carlton Peak as well.
Carlton Peak; before climbing the summit.
Matthew making his way to the top! You can do it!
Taking a shortcut through a few rock formations.
He made it! Overlooking the summit on Carlton Peak.
We made it!
Back down the Peak and along the river again.
Matthew cooling off, and trying to cool me off as well.
Later that night, back near camp. Resting our feet along a cliff by Lake Superior.
Lake Superior, where the Temperance river empties into it.
The mouth of Temperance.
Saturday morning, 5/19/12. We decided to hike along the Superior Hiking trail on the opposite side of the river where we had hiked the day before. The bridge on the way to the river.
Have a safe jump!
Matthew resting by some falls.
Had to get a few shots of us.
Shot by the falls.
We stopped for a while and sat on top of a cliff by the river, overlooking this spot. Gorgeous!
Matthew trying out a few shots with my camera.
Say cheese!
Areas along the river were filled with potholes; signs of where the river used to flow.
Sitting by some of the potholes.
Further up the river, with more falls and impressive views.
Matthew being a goofball.
The park was filled with Monarchs and Yellow Swallowtail butterflies. I found a cluster of these swallowtails along the river.
Enjoying the view of the falls.
Slowed motion of the rapids.
Hiking back, nearing our camp.
After fixing some dinner, we hiked along the Superior shoreline near dusk. It was a very calm evening.

Good shot, Matthew. :)
Miles of shoreline...
Looking for land?
My tripod, coming in handy for another shot of us.
Via phone camera.
Saturday night; a very chilly night! Warming by a nice fire.
Sunday morning, 5/20/12. After a very showy night of lightning with thunder and pouring rain, we noticed more storm fronts moving in. Matthew captured these shots of the sunrise and clouds coming in over Superior.
Unfortunately, the sun didn't stick around for long.
