Trip of camping past- Memorial Day Weekend

Over Memorial Day weekend I went camping with my sister, her boyfriend, and a group of their friends and kids.  We all set up camp at Split Rock Creek State Park, down by the Pipestone, MN area.

The campground's beach area... too chilly to swim yet, but still a relaxing area.

A small painted turtle sunning himself on a log.

The dam along Split Rock Lake.

Side view of the dam.

A nice grassy plain along a hiking trail.

A historic building located within the state park.  From the top of the hill, one can have an overview of the plains of southwest Minnesota.

A lazy canoe ride on the Split Rock Lake.  Laura and I took out a canoe; the park offers cheap canoe rentals!

Another view from the front of the canoe.

My sister Laura operating the back of the canoe.

A visit to the "boys" boat... A not so friendly Lance (ha!), Nick, Travis, and Laura.

A view from the dock

Cattle crossing!  A farm nearby the lake; I caught this shot via canoe.

Nearing late afternoon and the cool overcast sky.

Laura and I chased these three pelicans across the lake to try and catch a shot of them.  Here, I caught them just before they took flight.

Take off!
